Because of a wrist injury, Anna couldn't participate in the match, but maybe that was somewhat appropriate when you consider that she is just as well-known for her off-court image as she's known for what she's accomplished on the court.

Born in Moscow, Kournikova began making waves in tennis at age 15. And despite being ranked as high as 8th in singles in 2000, she never won a WTA event by herself. She did team with Martina Hingis to win two grand slams in women's doubles, but by then Kournikova was becoming even more well-known as a model, appearing in hundreds of magazines and showing up in movies and music videos.

She was also named as one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world by People magazine, so even though she couldn't play, it did not keep a crowd of over 1,600 from turning out just to get an autograph and picture at Springfield's Cooper Tennis Complex.
